“ My ratings are based on what something is... Like, is it a great dive bar? 5 The Union however isn't just a great farm-to-table, it's an incredible restaurant! We were completely blown away with the food - the flavor, the quality, the creativity - but also with the unbelievable price-to-quality ratio. We were stunned at how affordable the fantastic meal was. I enjoyed the flatiron steak with the bone marrow butter. Hubby had the bavette with the red wine butter. Both pieces of meat were gorgeous. I favored the red wine butter but both were complex and approachable. We fell in love with the snap pea salad and mashed potatoes. I wish we lived closer so we could enjoy this again and again! ”

“ We enjoyed brunch today, Father’s Day, and had a wonderful visit with great service, fantastic food and a stunning atmosphere. Knowing The Union is truly a farm to table establishment and that we are beef from Montana ranchers is really special and important. As a first time mother, the bathrooms were incredible- tampons, diapers, wipes, and a changing table in the women’s and men’s bathroom! The food was amazing. Our 10 month old enjoyed a sausage patty, a French toast slice, and some of our food, a burger and frittata. We enjoyed a few adult beverages (the first round was comped from our food taking longer than our waitress wanted - a sign of thoughtful, excellent customer service) and the special seltzer was so refreshing and delicious. The vibe was great, quiet, and our waitress was kind, so sweet to our baby, and wonderful. They had a high chair that connected to our table and it was set up for us. The decor felt very Montana with beautiful Charlie Russell colors and scenes of the prairie, and the green booths are absolutely stunning! Honestly, I can’t say enough positive things about The Union- it’s a special place and I’m glad it’s only a hop and skip for us to visit. ”

With elegant touches like bone-handled steak knives and quality linens, it manages to feel refined without ever being pretentious, even casual and cozy. This is a place I’ll be returning to for brunch, lunch, and dinner—while also picking up local meats and provisions to cook at home. “ During a recent visit to Helena, MT, I discovered a fantastic farm-to-table restaurant that was so impressive, I returned for dinner before heading home. What stood out to me was not just the exquisite food, but the opportunity to watch and interact with the chefs as they worked their magic in the kitchen using a Brazilian grill. The menu changes frequently with the seasons, which adds to the excitement of dining here. On one visit, I tried the honey nut squash, expertly cooked over coals, and it was bursting with delightful flavor. The highlight, however, was the dry-aged bone-in ribeye steak, which melted in my mouth and showcased an incredible natural flavor. I highly recommend this place for anyone passing through or residing in Helena, MT. It's a culinary gem! ”

“ We accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant after watching the 2025 Vigilante Parade in downtown Helena. A contender for Best New Restaurant for the James Beard Restaurant Awards, we knew we had to try the food here! It did not disappoint. We split a beautiful, crisp mixed greens salad with dried pears tossed in a light vinaigrette, and a prime rib sandwich on a French roll. The beef was truly flavorful and juicy, but the star of the lunch were the tallow fried onions. If you love onions, I suggest you get an extra order! I’m wondering, “Do they ship to Maui?” I may have to mail-order some tallow to recreate this! Mahalo! And good luck on your nomination as Best New Restaurant in the USA. ”

“ Delicious. Love the flavor from the wood fired grill. Love the fact that it’s all Montana meats. They have a butcher shop right in the restaurant. The beef tallow onion petals did not disappoint. Just went back. Still great. Steaks now come with a peppercorn sauce and wilted kale. Amazing. Order your steak with chimichurri and hen of the woods mushrooms. ”

“ The old Bert and Ernie's has received an upgrade! It is a wonderfully joyful atmosphere. Light and bright with smiles all around from staff. We instantly felt welcome. From farm to table. Montana cattle ranches provide your steak of choice, and as for your sides, the chef has created a collection of exceptional dishes that charm your pallet. Emily took great care explaining the menu and was quick to be sure we received everything we needed. Our food came out quickly. There are no steak knives because your butter knife glides right through the fresh steak. Exceptional service and extraordinary food. A sensational addition to Helena. ”

“ The food is delicious! I highly recommend the trout, lardo and desserts. Service was not great. We went twice: first time the waitress took care of us very well, but never brought us our pea salad; 2nd time we got all our food but the server wasn't great, thry were very slow and unorganized. ”
